In this post, I put Shane Co. and James Allen head to head in a competition to give you the best price and service on a 1-Carat, Round Brilliant Cut diamond engagement ring. All with identical grades and specs. Which is better?
The ring. We start at Shane Co. with this ring ….
- It has a 2.5mm 14K white gold comfort setting.
- The COLOR is G.
- The CLARITY IS VS2.
- The CUT QUALITY (as graded by the GIA) is Excellent. (Shane Co. adds their own “grade” of “Shane Classic,” but this is them grading themselves so it can be discounted. It’s just an Excellent cut quality from the GIA. Which is awesome.)

Here’s the Shane Co. diamond for $6,820 (not counting the setting, which we’ll add next).

To find the same diamond (or likely a similar one, since this one will probably already be purchased when you read this), just go to Shane Co., and set your diamond filters to those specs (listed above).
Don’t forget to click the “add more filters” at Shane Co., to show all filters. (Please, Shane Co., start displaying all your filters without us having to click? Just saying.)
Here’s the Shane Co. setting. It’s 14K white gold. It’s a 2.5mm comfort setting. 4 -prong of course. It’s $400.
See it here live.

Now look at the whole package from Shane Co. It’s $7,220.
Once you add the setting I showed you to the diamond (which I told you how to find using the Shane Co. slider filters, above), you get this ring, pictured below.

Nice, right?
But let’s see if James Allen can beat that price.
(We already know that James Allen beats Shane Co. (and most other retailers) in terms of letting you SEE the diamond you’re buying. James Allen has incredible 3D imaging of the diamonds you are looking at. Shane Co.’s imaging is lacking, by comparison, in my opinion.)
Let’s now look at the James Allen setting. It’s virtually identical to the Shane Co. setting. It’s $660.
You can see this setting live at James Allen here.

That setting is 14K white gold. 2.5mm. It’s a comfort design. 4-prong of course. All virtually the same as the one from Shane Co.
Now here’s a virtually identical diamond from James Allen, too. It’s $5,120.

To find that diamond, or one very similar, start at the James Allen diamond sorter and set your sliders as pictured below.

Now look at the whole package from James Allen. It’s only $5,780. Much less than Shane Co.!

That’s quite a bit less money than you’d pay at Shane Co. To be honest, I didn’t expect to see that much savings.
(Even better, if you chose Lab-Created diamonds — which are 100% exactly the same physically as Earth-Created diamonds — you’d save even more.)

This lab-created diamond engagement ring (100% genuine diamond, same in every way as an earth-created diamond ) is only $2,370 at James Allen.
(Unfortch Shane Co. sells only diamonds mined out of the earth at this time.)

Conclusion: James Allen wins against Shane Co. in today’s competition
When we see a competition of Shane Co. vs James Allen, it ends up being no competition at all.
I’ve never yet seen James Allen lose a competition … and that’s true again today.
James Allen beats Shane Co. in price even on an Earth Created diamond ring. These rings have the same specs. James Allen’s is just less expensive because they have a more efficient business model.
And if you go with the most environmentally friendly diamonds of all, Lab-Created diamonds, you’ll save even more. A LOT more.
And yes, people need to hear it, because they can’t quite believe it. But it’s true: Lab-Created diamonds are 100% identical to earth created diamonds. Physically. Chemically. In every single way. They were just created in a lab. (And not dug out of the earth, in mining operations.)
Enjoy your shopping!
