For this year’s shopping season, in a deal published today, November 20, 2020, Jared has reduced these 1-carat total weight (1/2-carat each) diamond earrings (item number 200484602 at Jared) to $1,000. Are they a smart buy at that price?
That depends.
You can get Lab-Created diamond earrings of the same size and cut with significantly better Clarity grades from James Allen for $967.
Jared’s has screw / twist backs. These are more secure, for such expensive diamonds.
James Allen’s offer has friction backs. This style of earring backs are more comfortable and (in rare circumstances) safer for your ear lobes.
So which deal is better for you comes down to whether you prefer screw backs or friction backs. If you prefer screw backs, then Jared’s $999 price is worth paying. If you prefer friction backs (or have no preference), then you’ll save $32 by choosing the James Allen offer.
I recommend never buying these earrings at list price ($1,700) at Jared. Here’s why: The list price at James Allen is $1,290. That’s a savings of $400. Well worth going with friction backs, in my opinion, unless you absolutely require twist backs.
By the way, yes, Lab-Created diamonds are 100% authentic, 100% real, 100% diamonds, the same as Earth-Mined diamonds. They’re just made in a lab. That’s literally the only difference.
