Emerald cut diamond engagement rings make an impressive statement. This massive ring makes an even bigger statement. But should it cost $58,000? Good news: you can build a ring like this from a trusted retailer for around $42,000.

Costco’s offer for $58,000
The Costco item number for this ring is #1352626.
You can take a look at it live at Costco, unless and until it sells out.
James Allen offers a ring with very similar specs for $42,160
How to get the James Allen deal
Getting the deal at Costco is simple. You just add it to your cart and buy it.
James Allen sells diamond rings that you build yourself, so it’s slightly different. Still pretty easy:
1. Select this platinum 4-emerald side-stone setting for $3,900. (You’ll get a $1,500 discount for buying such an expensive diamond in the next step. So just take $1,500 off the $42,160 headlined price.)
2. Go to my pre-set James Allen diamond search results and select a diamond from the first 2 or 3 diamonds in the list. (James Allen diamonds are unique, so I can’t of course send you straight to a specific diamond. It would sell out quickly. Also, of course the inventory is always changing, so you may see slightly different prices when you search.)
3. For even greater savings, click the “Lab-Created Diamonds” filter. (Use my pre-set Lab-Created Diamonds search results.)
Below is the (much larger!) 4-carat lab-created diamond on the same 1-carat 4-stone setting, total price of $33,530.
4. Combine a diamond you like with the setting you chose, and buy your ring. (Hurry because every diamond is unique. Anyone could buy it before you do.)
The Costco diamond ring’s specs, explained
Diamond Certificate
It has a GIA certificate. That’s the gold standard, so to speak. Fully trustworthy.
Shape
It’s an Emerald Cut, flanked by a total of 2 more emerald cuts.
Carats
The center stone is 3.05 carat. The total carat weight is 3.57 carats. So the 2 stones, one on each side, each weigh about 0.26 carats.
Clarity
It’s VVS1 clarity.
Color
The color is “G”.
Cut Quality
Cut Quality is graded by the GIA only for Round Brilliant diamonds. Not for Emerald Cut (or for any other shape besides Round Brilliant).
The James Allen diamond ring’s specs explained
The James Allen diamond has the same Clarity and Color specs as the Costco diamond has. James Allen even used the same 3rd-party diamond grading lab: the GIA.
Carats
The James Allen center diamond is 3.3 carats. That’s 0.25 carats (a 1/4 carat) larger.
The James Allen total carat weight, including the 4 (not just 2) flanking emerald diamonds, is 4.3 carats. That’s larger than the Costco ring’s 3.57 carats.
(And if you’re lucky enough to be the one to get the James Allen lab created 4.05-carat diamond while it’s still there, the total carat weight of the entire ring will be 5.05 carats!
For just $33,530, that’s $24,470 less than the Costco ring!)
Cut Quality
Not specified, since the GIA grades the cut quality of only Round Brilliant diamonds. No other shapes.
Conclusion: This Costco diamond isn’t worth it, for $58K. James Allen offers far better deals, as shown in hard figures above.
In my view, this Costco diamond ring isn’t worth it. It just shouldn’t cost $58,000 — at least for anyone who has read this article.
